EMD (Exact Match Domain) Update:
In the past Experts considered that site with keyword in the domain will rank high regardless of the quality so this update named as EMD was introduced to prevent low quality sites ranking well in SERPs because of having exact match keywords in the domain. Whenever Google refresh EMD those sites which had improved their content may regain good ranking and sites with thin or previously missed by this update might be caught.

The objective of this Algorithm was to clean up search results for spammy queries such as payday loan, heavily spammed queries and pornographic etc.
